Most SEO advice is written for companies with dedicated marketing teams. This checklist is for a small business in Pakistan with limited time: the items that matter, in order, with everything optional stripped out.

Technical basics (do once, check yearly)

  • HTTPS everywhere. Your site loads on https:// and http:// redirects to it.
  • One version of your domain. www and non-www should not both serve the site — one must redirect to the other.
  • Mobile first. Most Pakistani traffic is mobile. Test every important page on a phone, on mobile data, not just office Wi-Fi.
  • Speed. Compress images, avoid heavy sliders and page builders stacked with plugins. Slow pages lose visitors before they load.
  • Google Search Console. Free, and it tells you exactly what Google sees — indexing problems, search queries, clicks. Set it up and submit your sitemap.

On-page essentials (for every important page)

  • One clear topic per page. A page trying to rank for everything ranks for nothing.
  • A descriptive title tag (under ~60 characters) that says what the page is and where you operate.
  • A meta description (~120–160 characters) written like a one-line ad — it's your pitch in the search results.
  • One H1 heading that matches what a searcher wanted when they clicked.
  • Real words. Google can't rank a page of images and vibes. Write for the customer, in the language they search in.

Local signals

  • Claim and complete your Google Business Profile — see our Google Maps guide for Karachi businesses.
  • Keep name, address and phone identical across your site and profiles.
  • Mention the cities and areas you actually serve in your page copy.

Content that actually ranks

You don't need daily posts. You need pages that answer the questions your customers already ask — prices, comparisons, "how long does it take", "which is better". One genuinely useful article a month beats four thin ones a week. Answer real questions fully and you earn rankings that last.

What small businesses can safely skip

  • Buying backlink packages — cheap links from irrelevant sites do more harm than good.
  • Obsessing over tiny keyword-density tweaks — Google stopped rewarding that years ago.
  • Posting for the sake of posting — thin content dilutes rather than builds.

Frequently asked questions

How long until SEO shows results?

Technical fixes can show within weeks; content and authority compound over 3–6 months. Anyone guaranteeing "#1 in 30 days" is selling something else.

Can I do SEO myself?

The basics in this checklist — absolutely. Where an agency earns its fee is in competitive niches, technical audits, and doing consistently what you'll realistically never have time for.

Does social media help SEO?

Not directly as a ranking factor, but it distributes your content, builds brand searches, and those do help.
